-Lizzy Borden Update

[Note: This comes from . – Tim]

A letter from Lizzy to all the Lizzy Borden Friends and Fans around
the world

It's been three and a half years since Lizzy Borden played our last
show together with Alex Nelson, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and me.
Since the untimely Death of Alex, I didn't know if Lizzy Borden would
ever record or perform onstage again, or if we even wanted to without

The three of us have been keeping ourselves busy writing, recording
and performing in a band we created called Starwood ( ). Starwood is not a metal band and that
is why it was not tied together with Lizzy Borden in any of the
promotions. This band is very important to the three of us because it
came together at a time when we really needed it. Burying your
brother, band mate and Best friend was not an easy thing to do. The
adventures that we all experienced together around the world for over
20 years is not something you can just pick up and move on from that

We have recorded and released one Starwood record and we are days away
from finishing the second Starwood record. Like I said before this is
not a Metal Band, it has more in common with cheap trick then Priest
or Maiden. Even though Starwood is not for the average Lizzy Borden
Fan we are none the less very proud of the band and especially our new
forth coming record, it should be out sometime this year with dates to

Having said all of the above, if you've spent as much time touring the
world screaming blood curdling metal as we have, you know it's in our
blood, we are eternally infected.

This brings me to the reason I'm writing you today.

The three of us, (just like Freddy Kruger would have liked) have been
having the same nightmare at the same time. Or even a better analogy
is we all shared the same girl and we all now have an itch. That itch

The first step to bringing back our murderess little road show is to
find the right guitar player or players. Being that Alex Nelson was
irreplaceable this is not going to be easy. He did the job of two
guitarists and sang better then me most nights. Word around the
campfire is, we might bring in some of our "famous" guitar slinger
friends (you may be surprised of all the world class "Famous" guitar
players that are big fans of Lizzy Borden) to play on the record, you
will know who they all are if we decide to go that route.

Just in the week or so that the three of us have been considering
screaming American Metal again, it somehow leaked out and we have
already been offered some dates in the near future in various parts of
the world. This is something we are seriously considering.

As far as a new Lizzy Borden record. We all thought DEAL WITH THE
DEVIL was a great Disc, (it received four and five star reviews around
the world). Universally the best reviews Lizzy Borden has ever had.
However this was the last record that Alex played on and it remains
very special to all of us. So for that reason there will be no DEAL
WITH THE DEVIL part two as was originally planned.

We have been plotting some really great ideas on where we should take
the music and the new concept; from these early meetings I know this
is going to be something like you've never heard before from us but
always wanted to.

Just like all of the Lizzy Borden records we want to go where we've
never been before and still be a classic Metal band. That means
pounding Double Bass Drums, Shredding guitars, a thunderous maniacal
bass and of course some Blood soaked screams, all within a beautifully
lit dark bloody concept as only Lizzy Borden can do. We are going to
take our time and make sure we make the record of our lives! So
although we might be doing some touring this year, the new record will
probably climb out of the grave early next year with a full tour in
support of it.

Other then the fact that we have the thirst and we're doing this for
ourselves, we are also doing it for the Lizzy Borden fans that have
been writing to us from all over the world for the last few years
asking us when or if we would ever record/tour again. I've said this
before and I'll say it again, we don't have millions of fans but the
ones that we do have are the most dedicated fans since the kiss army.
We love each and every one of you and I know we will live and die
giving you all we have.

We are also calling out to all of the fans around the world, "you've
got the power" to bring Lizzy Borden to your town. All you have to do
is join the Lizzy Borden street team ( ). That means
calling promoters/radio stations etc. And getting the word out in your
town in any and every way that you can that YOU WANT LIZZY BORDEN! If
you scream loud enough, we will be there.

We have just begun the search for new management, a new booking agent
and all of the other biz stuff. All those interested can contact us
here: .

We invite you to come and visit us on our new myspace page ( ) and become our new friend, as
well as to get all the latest news as we
embark on this new adventure.

Speaking for Joey and Marten we are all excited and can't wait to see
our old and new friends on the road again. …..and yes, oh yes, there
will be Blood….

Eternally yours,

-Lion Music Update

All relevant artwork and further promo information can be found
following the link under each album.

Out Today – March 24, 2006

Satyrian – ETERNITAS
Genre – Gothic Rock/Metal

Satyrian is an international gothic rock band, combining dark
atmospheric lyrics with wave, rock, classical orchestration, piano and
heavy guitars.

The new album ETERNITAS consists of 12 songs. The album offers a wide
variety of music styles from pure dark rock songs, danceable
industrial beats and folk elements to atmospheric slow songs filled
with classical orchestrations. The two different female voices in
combination with rough and clean male voices are utilized extensively.
The guitar work varies from rock and metal riffing to melodic leads
and is often combined with the piano playing along. The lyrics offer a
dark atmospheric approach and are often based on deep personal
emotions. The topics are about life and death, desires, fears, loosing
a loved one and all eternity, The Eternitas.

Genre – European Hard Rock

Lion Music is proud to announce the return of Zeelion to the rock
scene after a six-year hiatus and the release of their powerhouse
second album STEEL ATTACK.

STEEL ATTACK is home to 10 pulsating rock anthems that showcase the
soaring vocals and melodies of Lenny de Rose which blend perfectly
with the world class guitar crunch of Sudden. STEEL ATTACK sees
keyboards play a slightly more enhanced sound than on the bands debut
whilst the rhythm section is as solid as ever. The band's
incorporation of a number of rock styles adds interest and diversity
to the melting pot, yet the unmistakeable Zeelion sound is stronger
than ever.

It may have taken six years for STEEL ATTACK to see the light of day,
but one listen proves the wait has been worth it.

Coste Apetrea – RITES OF PASSAGE
Genre – Progressive Rock

RITES OF PASSAGE is the new solo album from progressive fusion legend
Coste Apetrea. The album came about as a result of the response Coste
got with the band Samla Mammas Manna who are the band Coste has played
in and been working with since 1972 except for a period in the end of
the '70s and the '80s where Coste played with and contributed 50/50 in
the Jukka Tolonen Band with whom he recorded seven band albums and two
acoustic guitar albums.

Coste had no idea what the album was going to sound like when he
started writing the music but now comments, "I look back and I can see
it is a compressed version of what I have been into during my entire
career. I have a passion for all kinds of music and all kinds of
instruments, still my main instrument is the Guitar, and being 14
years old when I first heard Jimi Hendrix on the Radio of course makes
an impact that probably can be heard on my Music today and as long as
I live. The album is pretty heavy and maybe the Rockiest I've ever
done and that pleases me because people in my generation seem to cool
down making more acoustic and softer music, I didn't intend to make a
heavy record it just came out that way, today I feel I wanna go even
heavier next time around (to my own surprise)."

Sphere Of Souls – FROM THE ASHES…
Genre – Progressive Metal

FROM THE ASHES… is the stunning debut album from Sphere Of Souls, a
new band that is already being described as the ultimate amalgamation
of Dutch prog-metal talent.

Sphere Of Souls features ex-Sun Caged members André Vuurboom (vocals)
and Joost van den Broek (keyboards), who also handled production
duties. Former Autumn Equinox bassist Kees Harrison and drummer Ruud
van Diepen create the powerful backbone of the band, whilst rhythm
guitar duties are handled by former Imperium guitarist Rob Cerrone.
Lead guitar work is courtesy of virtuoso Anand Mahangoe.

FROM THE ASHES… is an album of a conceptual nature, featuring 13
tracks ranging from the heavy to the atmospheric. Fans of the band
members' previous bands will not be disappointed at the music
contained within, yet they will also hear a new sound that is unique
to the band.

House Of Shakira – LIVE AT FIREFEST 2005 (DVD)
Genre – Melodic Rock

Swedish melodic rock sensations House Of Shakira rocked the
prestigious Firefest festival in the UK on May 7th, 2005, with a set
list spanning their career from the 1997 debut LINT to 2004's
critically acclaimed FIRST CLASS. LIVE AT FIREFEST 2005 showcases one
of the most original bands on the AOR/Melodic Hard Rock scene and
displays the band living up to their legend.

House Of Shakira's LIVE AT FIREFEST is a unique release from a rather
unique band. The thing that set this DVD apart from so many other "so
called" live DVDs today is that this is a real live recording! It's
the real thing, no overdubs except a few small repaired parts caused
from audio drop-outs and errors on some of the original recorded
tracks. The concert features both Andreas Eklund and Mikael Eriksson
on vocals and the crowd are obviously thrilled to hear songs from all
the band's records. This release is a celebration to all who still
play in real bands versus the flooding market of projects out there.
House Of Shakira has been around for some 15 years now and the members
are still in the band for the same reason as when they started it —
to play the music they hear in their heads no matter what the flavour
of the year is.

Genre – Progressive Metal

Venturia are a new classic prog metal sensation hailing from France
with their music being a mix of metal, clean pop-melodies, technical
progressive rock and high virtuosity. The band has already gained a
reputation in France as being "the future of metal."

The music on THE NEW KINGDOM is a filtered blend of the band's
influences with the final product unique to Venturia. This sound
offers something for everyone from the heavy, to the pop influences.
The progressive side and high-virtuosity will please all the
musicians, and both male and female fans will be able to relate to
Venturia's very talented and beautiful female singer. All these things
mixed together make Venturia different from the norm.

THE NEW KINGDOM is set to herald a new era for French Progressive
Metal with Venturia being the band at the front of this movement.

We are proud to announce Listeria's addition to the first
International Rock 'n' Metal Festival.

International Rock 'n' Metal Fest
East of England Showground
15th & 16th July 2006

Festival Press Release:

A Music Festival of this magnitude has been wanted in Peterborough
since Ozzy Osbourne was in short trousers!

What prompted the decision to bring an International merger of heavy
rock and thrash metal, a head to head of denim versus leather to the
UK's East of England Showground? According to Promoters EuROMET
ProMOTIONS it is the perfect venue. A combination of location and
accommodation that has an experienced staff, second to none, capable
of handling such a substantial and high profile International event.
They maintain there is a dearth of venues like the EOE Showground that
are not only in short supply in the UK but also in Europe, which are
desperately needed to provide a showcase outlet for the vast hordes of
unrecognised talented to strut their stuff or promote their latest
offering. Here, at last, say the promoters, is a very real chance for
frustrated bands to bypass the soul destroying path to the ever closed
A&R door and avoid the eternal, no hope, wait for a call to play at
one of the very few impregnable closed shop Fort Knox Fest's!

Confirmed bands so far are….

EuROMET ProMOTIONS say the general fan loving public hold the key to
the Metallicas or Sabbaths of tomorrow! Encouraging you to 'vote with
your feet' and turn up in droves to this Inaugural International Rock
'n' Metal Fest that will offer much more than just excellent music.

Do that they say and EuROMET will become an annual Festival.

There will be a wide variety of other daily entertainment finishing
each night with a digitally coordinated pyromusical firework display
to the strains of (AC/DC's) "Thunderstruck."

Tickets are now on sale via the EuROMET 2006 Web site:

-Summer Breeze News

Dear Summer Breeze community!

Just in time for the weekend we have long awaited news for you.

The Summer Breeze 2006 will take place in the beautiful area of
Dinkelsbuehl ( ). The airfield of local
Aeroclub of Dinkelsbuehl-Sinbronn is where exactly it will take place.
It's a perfect site for a festival and easy to find. To give you a
rough idea: by car it's about 40 minutes far from Abtsgmuend where it
used to take place. It can be reached by Autobahn A7 and A6.

Ticket sales start now and tickets will be available on our home page
with immediate effect. Our ticket hotline (+49 (0) 211-2936843) will
start selling beginning of April. The prices haven't changed so a
three day ticket will be available for 42,-€. Just remember that
last year we were sold out quite quickly. Therefore make sure you get
your ticket in time.

First orders will be sent with a free CD of your choice:

BLOODFLOWERZ – diabolic angel / END OF GREEN – motor (Maxi CD Paket) /
STORMWITCH – dance with the witches / STORMWITCH – priest of evil /
DEEP INSIDE MYSELF – at a late hour / AD INFERNA – l'empire des sens /
UNDERTOW – 34ce / PSYCHOPUNCH – smashed on arrival / SLEEPINGODSLIE –
phlegma / KORODED – the absurd beauty of being alone

Each CD will also come with a gimmick of the Summer Breeze history.
Please note: limited quatities only. First come, first serve.

But there is more news to tell. Below you will find some more bands we
added to the billing. Now have a look at who else is going to kick
serious butt in Dinkelsbuehl.

The godfathers of modern metal split up years ago to get rid of their
guitarist. Shortly after they refound themselves. Former bassist
Christian now plays guitar as the bass is being played by Strapping
Young Lad bassist Byron Stroud. So back they are with more power and
gasoline running through their veins. Thanks to drum machine Raymond
Herrera and frontman Burton C. Bell on stage they always kicked hard.
Now the albums do so, too.

To fans of gothic and dark wave this bands needs no further
introduction as they are one of the big players of this genre. Heavy
minded melodies added to epic lyrics are their trademark. No reason to
turn away for true metal heads. During history mastermind Tilo Wolff
and his pleasure slave Anna Nurmi quite often added rock elements to
their sound und used screaming guitars.

The hot spice of this year's billing are Negative from Finland. They
obey to their heroes as there are Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith or HIM. Not
just copying the songs they also take the spirit an adapt it to
present times. Jonne Aaron and his band keep entering the charts on
high positions in their home country as well as in Japan. But also in
good old Germany their last album did quite well.

Seems to be a bit of a family meeting. Ex-The Crown frontman and his
band One Man Army & The Undead Quartet have been confirmed a while
ago. And now Angel Blake featuring two more Crowns have just jumped on
the billing. Mastermind Marko Tervonen on guitar and Janne Saarenpaa
on drums used to play with The Crown, too. The front man is not a no-
name either. He played with Transport League and Mnemic. Not as
destroying as The Crown but more song orientated in the vain of Danzig
and Metallica.

Sweden's constant ejection of high level bands seems to be endlessly.
Scar Symmetry decided to go for melodic death metal. Their debut
SYMMETRIC IN DESIGN took the world by storm just like this. Scar
Symmetry can easily get in the ring with big names such as Soilwork
and In Flames.

Here you get the full service. These German sound artists create a
wall of sound you could bury crowds under. They strike you like
lightning just to calm you down again the very next minute by bringing
in strings and classical elements. Difficult to compare to other
bands. Fans of Converge or Neurosis definitely have to give it a try.

And a candy for the fans of thrash and heavy metal. Often compared to
Metallica they developed themselves. Meanwhile they created a unique
sound without getting away from thrash metal. Still attacking you like
a tank. New record WHEN TIMES TURN RED received best reviews from
everywhere. So expect the brand new material to be played live.

Overview of the billing 2006 so far:

More news and info coming up shortly on our home page.

Keep on rockin'

-Loudness/Ion Vein/Cable/Sacred Dawn
Joe's Bar, Chicago IL
March 22, 2006

-According to front man Minoru Niihara, the Japanese metal band known
as Loudness hasn't played live in Chicago, Illinois for 18 years. That
statistic now changes as Loudness once again graced they Windy City
with their aural presence this past Wednesday night at Joe's Bar on
Weed St. It was a full night of metal scheduled, with three opening
bands, including hometown favorites Ion Vein, but we missed the first
band, getting there at the very end of Cable's set. I'd never heard of
Cable before and only heard two songs live, but they seemed more than
competent Southern rock band. And no lie, twice during the evening I
was asked by random strangers if I was Cable's lead singer. I'm not,
and I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate the comparison, but that just goes
to show you how much blond hair looks alike, I guess. And while I'm on
that subject, there was A LOT of hair at this show. Just saying, is

The boys of Ion Vein played a relatively short set full of all-new
material. Guitarist Chris Lotesto had some technical problems with his
amp early on, but the rest of the band plugged right through as if
everything was fine. Their new material seems edgier and much harder
than before and they should have a new disc dropped by late summer,
again produced by Neil Kernon. I'm certainly looking forward to that!

As for the headliners themselves, Detritus Foreign Correspondent
Michael Lee was brought in for this special occasion. We had a bit of
difficulty figuring out the set list, and with Mike's understanding of
Japanese, he asked a crew member for a copy, only to find out that
they save the set lists and reuse them each show. Thus our list is

Loudness (75 minutes)

Exultation / ? / Crazy Nights / Crazy Doctor / ? / Telomerase / Crazy
Samurai / Cross / In The Mirror / S.D.I. // ? / Rock Shock (More And

After more than a decade classic '80s metal band Loudness returned to
Chicago, celebrating their 25th year of existence with a tour. A
modest but energetic crowd greeted the seemingly ageless rockers whose
lineup consisted of all the original members. Lead singer Minoru
Niihara's voice was strong, complemented by the phenomenal skills of
guitarist Akira Takasaki. Comparisons between Takasaki and Eddie Van
Halen aren't unwarranted. Niihara told the crowd in his broken English
that the band was also touring for their new album ROCKSHOCKS, a re-
recorded best of Loudness, and their set selection supported his
claim. They played the classic "Crazy Nights" as well as "Crazy
Doctor" and the newer "Crazy Samurai" though all their selections did
not have the word "crazy" in the title. For the song "Cross" Takasaki
broke out a guitar where all the fret dots were LEDs and they turned
down the lights to give us the full effect long before he soloed.
There was one low point in the show; after Loudness completed their
first set, I don't think I have ever heard such a quiet crowd trying
to get the band to play an encore. The modest but energetic crowd had
just become modest. Despite the crowd's seeming lack of interest they
did return to play. Loudness had the presence of seasoned, well-
practiced band but they also had the energy and enthusiasm of a band
just starting out. With any luck I'll be around for their 50th
anniversary show.

you want to hear the albums' closing songs, which both begin on track
#88. (FYI, I'll be forwarding my carpal tunnel syndrome medical bills
directly to Magic Circle.)

-Also in that Magic Circle shipment was a press release about the band
HolyHell. I'd heard of the band since it opened tour dates for Manowar
and Rhapsody, but I wasn't aware of the lineup: vocalist Maria Breon,
guitarists Joe Stump and Tom Hess, bassist Jay Rigney, keyboardist
Francisco Palomo, and drummer Rhino. Turns out that's kind of an All
Star band there, what with Stump (solo, Reign Of Terror), Hess (solo,
Hess), Rigney (Reign Of Terror, Event), Palomo (Cristal Y Acero from
Mexico), and Rhino (Manowar) all having decent-sized resumes. And I'm
happy to see Mr. Rhino has a gig again, seeing that he actually burned
his old drum set when he joined Manowar and inherited Scott Columbus'
kit…only to then have to step down when Columbus rejoined the band.
:) See and for more.

-Now in my current playlist: Megadeth – ARSENAL OF MEGADETH (DVD)
(Capitol Records), Luca Turilli – THE INFINITE WONDERS OF CREATION
(Magic Circle Music), Korpiklaani – TALES ALONG THIS ROAD (Napalm
Records), Sphere Of Souls – FROM THE ASHES… (Lion Music).

Ah, Judas Priest. Counting this two-disc set, let's look at the band's
last 10 audio-only releases: three studio albums, two double live
sets, and five compilations (this includes 2004's METALOGY box set and
1998's Japan-only PRIEST, LIVE & RARE). I always rag on this sort of
thing when a favorite band of mine puts out yet another compilation.
Yes I know that most of the time these things are decisions made by
the record company and not the band, but still… This compilation is
notable, though, because it actually includes studio versions of songs
from 1976's seminal SAD WINGS OF DESTINY — "Victim Of Changes" and
"The Ripper" — that are usually left off of these sorts of releases
because that album was released by a different label. (Same goes for
1974's ROCKA-ROLLA, which is not represented here, but oh well.) THE
ESSENTIAL JUDAS PRIEST therefore has tracks from all the classic Rob
Halford-era studio albums from SAD WINGS OF DESTINY up through 1990's
PAINKILLER, plus last year's comeback ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION, and
ignores the two Tim "Ripper" Owens-era discs. Twenty-one of its 34
tracks are in common with 1993's two-disc set METAL WORKS '73 – '93,
but that puppy may well be out of print by now so if you don't have
the cash for METALOGY and you really need a Priest collection, you
certainly may want to check this out. All the core classics the band
always plays live are here — "Breaking The Law," "Hell Bent For
Leather," "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," "Painkiller," "Metal
Gods," "The Hellion/Electric Eye," "Living After Midnight," and the
two aforementioned SAD WINGS OF DESTINY tracks — as are other
enduring fan favorites like "Diamonds And Rust," "Beyond The Realms Of
Death" (an all-time epic of a power ballad!), "The Green Manalishi
(With The Two-Pronged Crown)," and "Delivering The Goods." The two '05
tracks, "Judas Rising" and "Revolution," fit in seamlessly with the
classics (but I would've personally chosen ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION's
"Hellrider" and "Deal With The Devil" instead…) and it's nice to see
other personal favorite warhorses all make the cut as "essential,"
tracks like "Love Bites," "Heading Out To The Highway," "Ram It Down"
(guys, hear me: you NEED to play this one live again!), "Jawbreaker,"
"A Touch Of Evil," "Freewheel Burning," "Blood Red Skies," "Night
Crawler," "Hot Rockin'," "The Sentinel," and "Screaming For
Vengeance." But "Turbo Lover" and "Out In The Cold?" I dig the latter
and tolerate the former (I guess) but… Pfft. I think other dubious
choices for inclusion here are "United" (some folks may call it a
great anthem but it's always struck me as kinda dopey) and "Hell
Patrol" (the cartoony, made-up words in this song's lyrics just ruin
it for me). But I'm happy to see the truly great 1979 ballad "Before
The Dawn" present, as I was when it first resurfaced on METAL WORKS,
because this track is really pretty and heartfelt, and just absolutely
craps all over the ballads the band attempted on the Owens albums.
Overall, nearly all facets of the Halford version of this great band
are represented here, mostly for the better but occasionally for the
worse, and it's a fun 2.5 hour listen any way you slice it. But
"essential" though? That depends if you have all these songs already.

STRIDE – IMAGINE (A-) Sensory, 2005

I'm really enjoying the way more bands are combining the accessibility
of AOR with the technical showmanship and depth of progressive rock
and metal, and I don't think anyone is currently doing it better than
Stride. I've been a fan of Stride for a long time now, having seen
them many times when I lived back in Houston, Texas. I was always
impressed by their attention not only to the musicianship but to the
quality of the songs, with 2001's MUSIC MACHINE a stunning example of
how to make instrumental music interesting and exciting. Following a
lengthy search the band settled on Gary Belin to add a vocal component
and now have produced the excellent IMAGINE. To put it succinctly,
Stride have found the missing link between Dream Theater and Journey,
throwing in elements of Triumph, Kansas, and Rush for good measure.
Opening the album with the title track, you know immediately this is
going to be something special, as atmospheric keyboards introduce
dramatic rhythm guitars and a driving bass/drum foundation, Gary's
powerful and stirring vocals delivering unusually positive lyrical
content. "Alive" follows and shows the band capable of creating
anthemic songs spiced with breathtaking instrumental dexterity.
Harking back to the style presented on MUSIC MACHINE, the band launch
into the killer instrumental "Endeavor," featuring guitarist Joel
Gregoire's incendiary leads blending with the swirling keyboards of
Rick Flores while monster drummer Matt Kanzler and agile bassist Mike
Martin propel the piece with inventive fills and changing time
signatures. Stride also excel at quieting things down with songs like
the sensitive "How Far" and harmonious album closer "Time." One of the
things I like most about Stride is how they use contrast to great
effect — check out the first few minutes of "Role Model" to hear
exactly what I am talking about…amazing! There's not a bad song on
the disc and my only real complaint is I wish the album had been
longer; I was already familiar with the title track and "Face The Day"
from samplers so it seemed like I was only hearing seven new songs,
but that's just me — can't get enough of a good thing! Bottom line:
If you are a fan of great songwriting and playing, check out IMAGINE
at your first possible opportunity… – Neal Woodall
