MÖTLEY CRÜE’s TOMMY LEE Jams With SOMETHING CORPORATE Singer In Hollywood

According to MTV.com, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee joined SOMETHING CORPORATE/JACK’S MANNEQUIN singer Andrew McMahon on stage at the Viper Room in West Hollywood, California Wednesday night (Jan. 25) for a rendition of the JACK’S MANNEQUIN song “You Can Breathe”. “Tommy played the drums on most of the [JACK’S MANNEQUIN] record [‘Everything in Transit’] and did it in a day,” McMahon told the crowd. “So I’m surprised he remembered it.”

THE CULT To Undertake 20-Date U.S. Tour, Explore Possibility Of Making New Music

Reunited THE CULT have officially confirmed that they will undertake a 20-date tour in March 2006. Some had reported the demise of the dark British rock band who’ve been inactive since 2002. Apparently those rumors were greatly exaggerated. “The eco-world cannot exist without its predators,” stated singer Ian Astbury. “Out in the wild it takes all types to make the system work. THE CULT needs the world the world needs THE CULT. We never really go away — everything must have its season and our season is upon us again.”

It is no secret that tension between frontman Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy has been at the forefront of THE CULT‘s lengthy breaks. The two realize — more than ever — that the strength and balance of THE CULT is the differences they bring to the table. Duffy states, “It’s [THE CULT] always been me and Ian and it always will be. We’re a little wiser but just as pissed off as we ever were.”

THE CULT rose to fame from the streets of London to become one of rock’s biggest attractions of the mid-’80s and ’90s. Critically acclaimed records and radio hits such as “She Sells Sanctuary”, “Wild Flower”, “Love Removal Machine”, “Edie” and “Fire Woman” propelled the band to arena status. However the band’s disdain for the “big machine” of the music business has paid off with the allegiance of their hardcore following. The band never sold out or abandoned their core audience. “We never had fans — we have addicts,” explained Astbury. “You either need it or you don’t. You either get it or you won’t. There is nothing casual about THE CULT. We attract pure votaries.”

The tour, tagged “A Return To Wild”, will cover 20 cities launching at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco and winding up at Nokia Live in New York City. Although the band was offered large venues they opted for more intimate houses. These shows are for CULT devotees and the wickedly curious. “We need to reconnect with our people, our tribe,” claimed Duffy. “We need to be among them. We want this to be as intimate as possible. You can’t do that in an airline hanger, mate.”

The band plans to play select dates and explore the possibilities of making new music in 2006 although at press time no firm commitments have been made.

THE CULT is managed by Tom Vitorino Management with booking by Dave Kirby at T.K.O.

THE CULT tour dates:

Mar. 03 – Las Vegas, NV @ The Joint

BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST Offspring Join Forces In LUNARMILE –

Garry Sharpe-Young of Rockdetector.com has issued the following report:

The next generation of stars sired by metal heroes is not just restricted to Kelly Osbourne (daughter of Ozzy) and Lauren Harris (daughter of IRON MAIDEN‘s Steve Hariris) it seems. For a while now Rockdetector.com has been predicting a union between sons and daughters of the famous, and now it seems to be happening, at least with Birmingham’s LUNARMILE.

The band (Photo#1, Photo#2, Photo#3), created at Stratford-upon-Avon college in 2004, is notably fronted by Toni-Marie, not only a striking figure in her own right and a girl who can certainly belt out a tune with gusto but also, as luck would have it, daughter of BLACK SABBATH riffmeister Tony Iommi. The band, featuring mainstay Tom Williams on guitar, has been active on the West Midlands club circuit for some time now but has had trouble keeping a rhythm section. Now that seems solved with an announcement that the ex-GRAVEL team of bassist Alex Hill and drummer Rob Stimpson have joined the fold. Recognize another name there? Alex Hill is son of JUDAS PRIEST‘s Ian Hill.

If that doesn’t get the A&R reps salivating there is the simple fact that LUNARMILE can pen a good song and are putting in the gigs to back it all up. Hopefully an album is on the cards for the not too distant future.

Check out an audio sample of the LUNARMILE track “I Know” at this location.

Upcoming LUNARMILE shows:

Feb. 10 – The Jailhouse – Coventry, UK
Feb. 13 – Coxs’ Yard – Stratford, UK (charity gig)

Message From Chuck’s MOM!!

Message from Chuck’s mom
Hello everybody,

I have finally received the order for the Leprosy shirts. I chose those because it was the most requested. When Chuck would record an album he would give me a vinyl record to add to my collection which I had framed and hung in my family room. The Leprosy album is the one I took to be copied onto the shirts, with the logo that is on the front of the album enlarged and put on the back.

I decided to stay true to the original artwork, and it turned out very well, I know you’ll approve. As always, the shirts are 20$ plus postage in US funds. I have large and xlarge with a request in for a few medium sizes. As my scanner is not working, I am sending Yvonne pictures to put on the site. I still have a limited amount of the Let The Metal Flow shirts and also some books. Take care.

Sincerely,
Jane Schuldiner

Ulrich survives local rocker’s wrath

This weekend, there was a hilarious development/psuedo-victory in the jihad for rock ‘n’ roll. On Friday night at the Jet Lounge, which is quickly becoming the coolest bar in town, one brave man made an attempt to urinate on troll Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich before being tossed out by some of the “musician’s” entourage. I know this isn’t as awesome as the guy from the North Side Kings knocking out Danzig, but we should still treat local rocker Bill Fool (bands include Bickley and the Down ‘N’ Dirties) as a hero for trying to give that Napoleonic little bastard a golden shower.

Of course, this is hard to believe, but there is photographic evidence of the encounter that is making its way to my mailbox shortly, and after talking to a barroom of people who witnessed this glorious event, allow me to provide you with a brief explanation of what went down.

Bill was wasted out of his mind at the bar when some friends notice a rather short fellow who looked an awful lot like Ulrich in a corner. After some recon work, it turns out the guy was in town for the Basquiat exhibit (which you all should go visit on a daily basis) since he owns some of the paintings on display. So, in a moment of divine inspiration, Bill found someone with a camera, walked over to the rock star’s table, exposes himself but is unfortunately thrust out of the venue before he could even squeeze out a drop.

Having known the man for about a decade and having seen him do some pretty outlandish stuff (usually involving his unleashed genitalia), nothing has made me prouder to be his friend than his failed attempt at pulling an R. Kelly on one of the most annoying little jerks in music history. All hail Bill Fool!

Now back to the usual ranting and raving. I really love KISS (well, up until Dynasty, anyway), and I find myself becoming increasingly disgusted by the shameless greed of Gene Simmons. I could handle the coffins and condoms he hawked, but I recently saw the man in a commercial for Bud Light, and it set me off.

Gene doesn’t drink and has been very vocal in condemning alcohol consumption, which makes this ad campaign make about as much sense as Mel Gibson endorsing Anton LeVay books.

Mr. Simmons, please stick to licensing the hell out of the KISS name and leave the booze shilling to someone who won’t look like a total hypocritical moron when doing so.

And speaking of endorsements, I would like to ask all readers to boycott Sprint, Duracell and anything else that uses Bon Jovi as a marketing ploy, because any company that is willing to give that band money doesn’t deserve yours.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY To Play This Year’s OZZFEST

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY booking agent Troy Blakely at APA has told Billboard magazine that the band will be taking part in this summer’s Ozzfest before doing additional North American dates in the fall. “We don’t know how we’re going to do it yet or who we’re going to be out with, but that’s the plan, we’re going to be back here in the fall headlining,” he said.

This year BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will tour overseas for most of the spring and early summer. The band is booked in Europe by Nigel Kerr at APS and in South America by Bill Monot at Paradise Artists.

“For the first time this year, we’re going to South America, for 16 headlining shows in 3,000-capacity-plus [venues],” BLACK LABEL SOCIETY manager Bob Ringe told Billboard. “We’re going to Australia for the first time this year — eight shows in May, 3,000-capacity-plus. And we’re doing a headlining European tour from May 23 until the first of July.”

Blakely calls BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde “one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen in the music business, period, and I’ve been doing this about 32 years.”

Wylde‘s work ethic impressed Blakely early on. “He’s working 24 hours a day, not just when he’s onstage,” Blakely said. “He’s either writing material for himself or for OZZY OSBOURNE, working on other projects he’s involved with, designing guitars or whatever else he’s doing.”

On the road, Wylde and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY are rock-solid at the box office. “we did two tours in 2005,” Ringe noted. “The spring tour we did 97.6% capacity, and the fall tour we headlined 3,000-plus seaters.”

According to Blakely, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s fan base is very loyal. “That’s one of the things I noticed a couple of years ago when I had JUDAS PRIEST on Ozzfest,” he said. “I saw this fan base that Zakk has. There are chapters in each city that are very, very loyal fans, that come out for Zakk and bring other people and spread the word about what Zakk and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY are up to. I’ve never seen anything quite like that before.”
