January 17, 1973: Ace Frehley auditions for KISS.

January 17, 1985: IRON MAIDEN play the first of five sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
January 17, 2001: METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted leaves the band.
January 17, 2001: IRON MAIDEN surprise former LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page with an autographed Fender guitar during a Rock In Rio press conference in Brazil.
January 17, 2002: METALLICA’s James Hetfield and his wife Francesca have a healthy baby daughter. Marcella Francesca Hetfield, born in San Francisco, weighed in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 21 inches.

January 18, 1974: BAD COMPANY is formed.
January 18, 1985: DEEP PURPLE’s Perfect Strangers tour opens – first Mk II show in 11 years.
January 18, 1991: AC/DC’s show in Salt Lake City, UT is catastrophic when a general admission audience of 13,000 stampede, killing three individuals. One of the fathers brings suit against the band, but by spring ’91 the case is dismissed.

1996: MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine begins work on a side-project rumoured to be under the name MASTERMIND (it ends up being called MD.45).
1996: ACCEPT release Predator.
1996: former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske begins working on new material with ex-IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith.
1996: RUSH guitaristb Alex Lifeson releases his debut solo release, VICTOR which features I MOTHER EARTH’s Edwin on vocals.

1997: BRUCE DICKINSON is currently writing new material and is expected to be going in a heavier direction. He is also said to be collaborating on selected songs with former IRON MAIDEN axeman Adrian Smith. The results become The Chemical Wedding.
1997: JUDAS PRIEST unveil their new logo.

1998: the official DEEP PURPLE website has begun a campaign to induct the band into Cleveland’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of fame.

1999: LIFE OF AGONY part ways with vocalist Whitfield Crane.
1999: former BLACK SABBATH frontman Tony Martin begins work on a project called THE CAGE with Italian guitarist, Dario Mollo.

2000: TWISTED SISTER asks the Atlanta Braves to stop using its song ‘I Wanna Rock’ to introduce pitcher John Rocker.
